When high quality content resonates with one, it may often find itself resonating with another, and then another, granting your content the capacity to “go viral”.

When content goes viral, it brings your new potential customers to you, rather than additional efforts being required of you to seek out these people. It establishes trust with them because they can see that other people are sharing the content which boosts social signals and credibility. The last thing I’d like to touch on, is how quality content helps to improve a site’s search engine rankings. I’ve already touched on this a bit, but to elaborate, content is what you present to search engines when they crawl your site.

In case you’re unfamiliar with the term, “crawling” is the process that search engines use to find content that is relevant on your site. Their crawlers are programmed with specific keywords to look for, content they are looking for, etc., so when they find content that matches what they are looking for, it gets indexed on the major search engines.

Another term I just threw at you, is “indexed”. Indexing is simply the process in which content is posted (or made visible) on the major search engines (ie: Google, Yahoo!, etc.).

The content that you present to search engines determines whether or not your content will be indexed. Think about it, if content isn’t relevant to what you’re trying to rank for on the major search engines then how can it possibly match keywords that they are looking for? And, if content doesn’t have keywords that match what they are looking for either, content will be practically invisible to search engines.

This essentially means content is taking a back seat when it’s not relevant or has something missing (ie: it’s not keyword-rich). But, it becomes popular when it’s rich in keywords and highly shareable and readers want to share and repost it. This, in turn, makes content easier for search engines to find it and rank it higher… Which is exactly what you want to have happen!

So, if you have content that’s rich in keywords relevant to your niche, content that people are sharing on social media sites, content that’s relevant to your customers needs, etc., what you are essentially doing is optimizing content for the major search engines.

When your content is optimized for the major search engines, it becomes much easier for them to crawl your website to index it. It will then be able to start conversations by driving traffic back to your website through keyword searches made by customers on the major search engines.

The content on your site should be relevant, descriptive, and engaging so that it can help establish authority in your field or niche. With content being such a crucial factor of ranking high in the major search engines (ie: Google | Yahoo! | Bing ), putting out content that is highly relevant to what you’re trying to rank for is extremely important.
